This bill requires multiple state agencies to verify immigration status and/or take measures to prevent undocumented immigrants from accessing public services.
Provisions include:
- The Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Commerce, the Housing Finance Agency, and all local housing authorities, must develop a system to confirm the immigration status of all applicants for state-funded benefits and prevent people without legal status from accessing public services beyond the extent required by federal law.
- All higher education institutions that receive state funds must verify, for tuition and educational benefits purposes, that all applicants are legally authorized to reside in the United States.
- The Department of Commerce, Division of Employment Security must verify that all applicants are legally authorized to reside in the United States prior to the first payment of benefits.
