This bill would increase criminal penalties for people in the U.S. without documentation, even when the crimes have nothing to do with the person's immigration status.

The U.S. Constitution guarantees that all individuals, regardless of immigration status, receive equal protection under the law. Sentence enhancements to punish people based on immigration status are clear attacks on the immigrant community. Punishment for a crime should reflect the nature of the crime, not the immigration status of the accused.
