This bill would make it a Class I felony to assault a public safety officer (including law enforcement, military, detainment center employees, and emergency services personnel) or law enforcement animal by throwing, spraying or projecting water or other substances. Under current law, it is already a felony to afflict physical injury on a public safety officer. This bill specifically criminalizes this kind of behavior regardless of whether it causes physical harm.
