This bill would allow police officers to stop anyone wearing a mask in public and ask them to remove it. The bill also increases the penalty for crimes committed while wearing a mask and mandates that judge give "imprisonment" when possible. It also increases the penalty for impeding traffic if done as part of a demonstration.
The provisions targeting the use of masks went into effect on June 27, 2024. The provision regarding blocking traffic goes into effect December 1, 2024.
