CHARLOTTE – Governor Josh Stein announced an Executive Order today directing state agencies to protect reproductive freedom in North Carolina. The order includes provisions to protect medical providers and patients from attack or persecution for lawful reproductive health care, safeguard medical privacy, and ensure that DHHS provides accurate information on available health care resources.

Liz Barber, the director of policy & advocacy for the ACLU of North Carolina, offered the following statement on the Executive Order:

“This Executive Order is a commitment from Governor Stein to continue advocating for reproductive freedom. We have already seen the monumental impact of attacks on abortion and contraception across the country and here in North Carolina. This is a critical time for reproductive rights, and we must all do our part to ensure the safety of those seeking and providing reproductive health care. We commend this important action from Governor Stein and will continue to urge elected leaders to use every power at their disposal to affirm our fundamental rights and work with our coalition partners to sustain access to safe abortions.”
