RALEIGH – American Civil Liberties Union and ACLU of North Carolina are launching a campaign to educate voters on the importance of the North Carolina Supreme Court elections this November. The ACLU and ACLU of North Carolina are nonpartisan 501(c)(4) organizations and do not support, oppose, or endorse candidates. The campaign will inform voters on the candidates’ positions and the significance of state supreme court justices in protecting North Carolinians’ civil liberties, especially the right to access abortion care.
“There is no doubt that politicians in the legislature will attempt to ban abortion in North Carolina, and we need a state supreme court that will protect our freedoms and our state constitution,” said Chantal Stevens, executive director of the ACLU of North Carolina. “This election cycle, we’re going to ensure that voters throughout the state know our state supreme court may be the last line of defense we have in protecting abortion access in North Carolina.”
American Civil Liberties Union will spend approximately $1.1 million to reach voters across the state to highlight the power of North Carolina's state supreme court justices in protecting North Carolinians’ civil liberties, including the right to bodily autonomy. The ACLU will engage voters through grassroots outreach, direct mail and digital ads to inform about the importance of the state supreme court, and the public positions and endorsements of supreme court justice candidates.
The General Election is on November 8th, 2022. North Carolinians can learn more about the importance of the state supreme court election and voting by visiting the ACLU of NC’s page.
