Both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly have passed Senate Bill 20, a ban on abortion after only 12 weeks of pregnancy. The bill will now go to Governor Roy Cooper, who has vowed to veto the legislation.
The North Carolina House approved a bill today that would harm North Carolinians’ health and rights by banning abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy and imposing severe restrictions on care before that point.
Politicians in the North Carolina General Assembly announced today that they would advance an abortion ban through the state legislature in the coming days which would eliminate access to care after only 12 weeks of pregnancy.
The ACLU of North Carolina Legal Foundation has filed a complaint against the City of Asheville, contending that park bans issued against community members and the administrative policy that authorizes these bans are unconstitutional.
A number of bills attacking trans youth have been filed in the North Carolina General Assembly. These bills join a wave of anti-LGBTQIA legislation sweeping the nation this year. Regarding the filing of these bills, Senior Policy Counsel of the ACLU of NC Liz Barber issued the following statement.
