This amendment would remove a provision from the state constitution requiring residents to pass a literacy test to be able to vote. While it hasn't been enforced in decades, this racist provision was desigened to disenfranchise Black voters and should be removed from our state constitution.

If passed by the General Assembly, the constitutional amendment will appear on North Carolina ballots in the next election for voters to decide on.
