Early Voting in North Carolina starts on Thursday, 10/17, and ends on Saturday, 11/02. Regular voting day is on Tuesday, 11/05. In preparation for these upcoming election dates, the ACLU of NC is holding multiple events for volunteers to participate in Get Out the Vote for one final push for voter registration and voter turnout. Together, we can continue to educate and prepare people for the election and ensure that everyone has the necessary information to cast their ballot and vote their rights.

We need volunteers like you to make the most impact as we approach Early Voting! Whether you register for one or more of these events, any time and effort you can volunteer makes a difference. If you have any questions or concerns about these events or volunteering, please reach out to Artie Hartsell, Director of Organizing, at [email protected]

In addition to phone banking, text banking, and in-person canvassing, we also encourage you to consider participating in letter writing. We have partnered with Vote Forward to mobilize volunteers to get out the vote by writing letters to voters throughout North Carolina. Writing personalized, handwritten letters to voters is a great and effective way to help increase voter turnout, making more of our voices heard and strengthening our democracy.

To participate in letter writing with the ACLU, register online to create your Vote Forward profile. Once you are registered, make sure to select the North Carolina campaign so you can send letters to voters in our state! Check out our toolkit for step-by-step instructions on registering and adopting voters and for information on receiving free letter writing supplies if cost is a barrier to your participation.

What is Canvassing?

A.What is Canvassing?

A.

Canvassing is something that advocacy organizations do close to election time in order to educate people around the upcoming election, as well as to answer any questions and provide necessary information. It is a key way in which organizations encourage people to vote in the election, whether that's early voting or voting on November 5th.

What is Phone and Text Banking?

A.What is Phone and Text Banking?

A.

Phone banking is a method of canvassing in which volunteers call people on the phone to discuss the upcoming election and voting. Text banking serves the same purpose but is done over text, rather than on the phone. These are both virtual alternatives to in-person canvassing.
