SB 631 and HB 574 are two of 491 anti-LGBTQ bills that have been filed across the country this legislative session, and among four moving at the North Carolina General Assembly this week alone.
North Carolina health care providers filed a lawsuit today challenging several provisions in Senate Bill 20, a sweeping law that severely restricts access to abortion from the earliest stages of pregnancy and bans care after 12 weeks in nearly all circumstances.
This week, the NC Bar Association canceled a drag trivia night fundraiser featuring drag performers, saying the event would be seen as a political statement. ACLU of North Carolina Legal Foundation’s legal director Kristi Graunke shared the following statement.
Both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly have voted to override Governor Cooper’s veto of Senate Bill 20, which bans abortion after only 12 weeks of pregnancy and imposes significant restrictions on abortion throughout pregnancy.
